“If you don’t see the book you want on the shelf, write it”
– Beverly Cleary
For the month of September, I have very high hopes for my WIP outline.
As you read in my previous posts, I am writing my very first book *yay,* and before I can do that, I have A LOT of prep work ahead of me. Since I quickly realized that I am a die-hard Plotter, I know that I will need a solid outline before I can write during Nanowrimo.
So far, I have the bulk of my outline figured out but the details are still locked in a hazy fog. Of course, I expect some of it to change between now and the draft, but I want to have some sort of directional tool to help keep me on track with my writing.
But like I said, I have a lot of work ahead of me.
Since I don’t want to give too much away on my actually story, I will only be sharing the general details of my WIP. I know for sure that the genre is a dark YA Fantasy that looks to span over three (or more) books. I also know it will be told thorough Multiple POVs with a Deep POV style since the story will be emotionally driven by the characters.
If you’ve read my Preptober Goals post, you may have an idea in some of my plans for the outlining phase.
The rest of this week will be all about developing more of the bigger picture of the plot, especially with Acts 2 and 3. Yesterday, I was dedicated most of the day to working on Act 1 which has an epic twist in the story (just one of many).
I also am planning on further character development. Since this story is going to be told from at least 2-3 characters, I need to really get into their shoes and figure out who they are and more of how they are intricately involved within the plot because this series is going to have so many layers that will eventually unravel themselves.
I think the hardest part has been trying to figure out how the characters interact with the plot which then has to have a specific world to take place in. Finding a way to have all of it fit together has been a challenge, but I can’t tell you how much fun it is to try and piece them together. It’s like the most creative puzzle that only YOU can solve!
Hopefully by the end of the month, I will have the general outline ready, characters discovered, and the world built to where I only have to fine-tune the details during Preptober.
It’s going to be a month-long journey, but my Post-its are ready, my caffeine is brewed, and my creative spirit is fired up!
What are you currently working on with your WIP?
Until next time…
