Weekly Writing Blog #1 | What I’ve Been Up To

Hello Everyone!

It has been a hot minute since I’ve updated y’all on my WIP progress.

And honestly, it’s been because there hasn’t been a lot to update you on.. until NOW!

I can officially say that I’m ready for NaNoWriMo! Yesterday, I spent nine hours on my outline, and I feel like it’s to the point where the foundation is ready for drafting. I know there are parts here and there that could use more tweaking, but overall, it’s stuff that needs to be worked out while I’m actually writing the story.

Scene Aesthetics

What I’ve found to be helpful so far in establishing a starting point for each chapter has been the wonderful Pinterest. I can’t begin to tell you how inspirational this site has been in coming up with characters, settings, and even names! Once I finished my outline, I went through all of my inspirational pictures and inserted them into the corresponding scene breakdowns. This is so that when I pull up the document to actually write those scenes, I have a general idea of the senses (sights, smells, feelings) that the characters may be experiencing in the moment.

Writing Playlists

I have also begun to find playlists to help hone me into a certain tone for the story. If you followed me on my Instagram Stories, you may remember the post I did with the Venom Soundtrack. While I was working out, I came across this dark, intense, villainous soundtrack that felt perfect for one of my characters.

So there it is. I can start to relax my creative brain and begin to let the outline fester for the next 10 days before the real work begins. I. Am. Ready.

So what will I be doing until then?

Well, I will be doing more research into the drafting phase looking into various resources for crafting each characters’ perspective and learning how to set the right tone for a scene. I will also be sharing in a later post on which resources I found to be the most useful in my writing process. But other than that, I think I will be taking a break from the world to let more ideas flush in.

I am so excited for this journey ahead, and it’s even more exciting that I am able to share everything with y’all.

How have you been preparing for NaNoWriMo?? Let me know in the comments if you have favorite resources you like to use for the drafting phase!

Blog News

We may have noticed that my blog is a bit different. Ok, more like a lot different.

Recently, I’ve been noticing that my motivation to add content has been more on the poor-side. And I think it had a lot to do with the look and feel of the content that I was putting out there.

You will have noticed that I switched my posting schedule around so that writing updates are on Tuesdays (instead of Wednesdays) and the featured posts on Thursdays (instead of Mondays). I wasn’t a fan of the updates being thrown in the middle of the week, but now, I think I will really vibe with this new layout.

I will also be posting fun writing prompts on Fridays as originally scheduled.

I have also completely changed the theme of the site to more of what my YA Book Blog looks like. I loved the theme over there and it was always easy to customize. Even though I was hoping to have two different looks to my blogs, I would find myself gravitated to liking and posting on the Book Blog more than this one, and I think it was because of how it looked more professional than what this blog originally looked like.

But now, I am really happy with how this turned out, and I hope it’s easy for y’all to navigate through.

I have so many fresh ideas to share, and I hope you will enjoy the journey too!

Don’t forget you can subscribe below for instant notifications of new content every week, and stay tuned for more writing updates and NaNoWriMo festivities!

Until next time..

Happy Writing,
